Blue Moving Across a Grid

Labradorite is known for labradorescence, a broad flash of color created as light interacts with fine internal layers in the feldspar. In this deep blue-gray stone, the effect appears as rich blue moving across small square facets arranged like a checkerboard. The stone is held in a 10k gold setting.

The square facets create a clear, orderly surface, but the color moving across them behaves much less predictably. One facet turns blue while the next settles back into gray, and a small change in angle rearranges the view again.

That balance between structure and movement is what makes the ring so absorbing to wear. The checkerboard pattern gives the eye something steady to follow, while the shifting blue keeps interrupting it. As the hand moves, different parts of the stone come forward, so the ring is never only one shade of blue-gray. It holds the depth of a dark sea, then lets a flash rise to the surface.
