Double Water Rutilated Quartz and Turquoise Ring

Water, Light, and a Wide Silver Band

A doublet of large-faceted rutilated quartz over turquoise rests on a wide band made in silver. The shank doubles the flowing lines of the Water Ring, giving its open structure a substantial presence.

The most intriguing part of this ring may be the shadow within the stone. Light passes through the broad facets of the rutilated quartz and reaches the turquoise below, creating shifting areas of blue that recall shadows moving beneath the surface of water. The rutile inclusions become part of that changing view.

The doubled Water Ring gives the shank its generous width while leaving open spaces for light to pass through. As the hand moves, both the stone and the openwork respond to the light from different angles. It feels substantial on the finger, yet the spaces within the design keep its scale from feeling closed or heavy.
