A Loop That Includes the Ear

Made in 18k gold, each stud follows the fluid, uneven outline of water. The two earrings have different shapes, and the earlobe shows beyond the gold loop when they are worn.

A loop usually acts as a frame, keeping whatever is inside neatly contained. These earrings let the boundary loosen. The gold line surrounds only part of the earlobe, allowing skin to become part of the composition and extend visually beyond the outline.

Before they are worn, they are two distinctly shaped gold loops. On the ear, the open centers fill with the color of the skin, completing the design in a new way. Because the earrings are asymmetric, each side creates a slightly different balance. The effect feels natural for a form drawn from water, where no two outlines need to match exactly.
