Before the mechanization of stone polishing, there were craftsmen in Japan who specialized in a technique called "Cobbing."
This involved determining the most efficient way to cut the raw quartz, which was then trimmed into pieces of convenient size by hand.
Although cubbing artists have disappeared with the advent of mechanization, contemporary polishing artisans have intentionally left the marks of the old scratching technique on the cut quartz.
We decided to set it in an 18K gold branch ring.
The doublet was designed and cut by Japanese master lapidarists.
